The experience to improve our children’s future.

Why I’m Running

Over the past few years, our Prior Lake-Savage (ISD 719) School Board has struggled finding strategies that improve the academic proficiency of our children while at the same time spending money on objectives that seem to have little to do with academics.  I’m seeking your vote to get our district back on course – both academically and financially.

The policy and spending proposals I will champion as School Board Director will always be done in my role as a strong advocate for all students and in support of parents and teachers.  I understand the investments you have made by choosing to live or work in this area.  I know school district effectiveness and efficiency were among your most important factors in deciding to live in our communities. Our children deserve the best and I will never forget that.

As a successful retired executive having held CFO and COO positions during my career, I had the opportunity to lead turn-arounds at companies that were also struggling both operationally and financially.  I see similar challenges currently facing our school district and I believe my experience will serve the district well in making our schools better and our administration more efficient.

I believe all students should be proficient in literacy, math and science in order to leave our schools with the tools necessary to lead successful lives.  It is up to our School Board to ensure fiscally responsible academic objectives and policies are developed, measured, and addressed if improvement is not being achieved.

I would appreciate the opportunity to serve and advocate on behalf of all students, teachers, parents and taxpayers within the Prior Lake-Savage School District and appreciate your support.

Get to know Bill

My name is Bill Markert. I am a resident of Credit River and have been married to my wife, Sharon, for 34 years. We have two grown children, Matthew and Jennifer. Sharon and I grew up in Wisconsin and have lived in many cities and states throughout my career. Our children attended Shakopee schools from K-8 grade before we moved to the Dallas area during their high school years. We always enjoyed our time in the Twin Cities area so in 2016, we decided to build our retirement home in the beautiful area of Credit River. I am currently the Chair of the Credit River Planning Commission, a member of the Prior Lake Rotary Club, and member of the Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools (PLSAS) Finance Advisory Committee. I have my Minnesota short-term substitute teaching license and have substituted in the PLSAS district prior to the pandemic. I enjoy running, playing and watching all sports and watching and assisting our kids succeed in their personal lives and careers.
